- Combine strong coffee, milk (or water and instant coffee granules), sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder in a medium saucepan. Stir and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add salt and dark chocolate chunks. If necessary, reduce the heat to prevent burning the chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is melted and fully combined with the liquid. Pour in the vanilla and peppermint extracts.
- Pour the mocha into 4 small cups or 2-3 larger cups. Top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes, if desired. Serve immediately.
Notes
This recipe is perfect for a cozy evening. You can adjust the amount of peppermint and chocolate to your preference. For an extra festive touch, add a whole candy cane as a garnish.
